Shroedinger and Newton. Newton’s a male tabby, with short stumpy tail and a very very fat tummy. Shroedinger’s a female, with hints of tabby except her greyness is tempered with orange and you cannot tell her tabby origin without a closer look. We call her Dinger since Shroedinger’s too long a name.
The story begins in Lecture Theatre 2 of Raffles Junior College, when my friend, Shuyi, and I went to the theatre to take a break, and perhaps study for the A levels Examination we are having later in the afternoon. While Shuyi was playing the piano, we heard mewing in the backstage. Upon thorough examination of the backstage, we found 2 kittens, approximately one month in age, in the broken sofa abandoned in the backstage – The couch gave birth to kittens?!?!
Long story short, we decided to leave them there to see if the mother would come back for them. It turned out the next day they were still there, but seemed weaker. No worries, the mother might still come back. Meanwhile Dinger became more adventurous and ventured out, attempted to jump off the stage several times. It was obviously too tall for her. Raphael and Weijia were there too, and Raphael acted as her fence from the edge for awhile. With the approaching Physics papers as inspiration, they started calling her Shroedinger. And the name stuck.
The next day, when we were supposed to have Economics paper in the afternoon, we went to check up on them and found Newton missing. That was when we became worried. Dinger seemed to be starving too. I was extremely unwilling to leave Dinger alone, and ended up leaving Dinger with my junior Yisheng while I go off for the paper. That was the day when Dinger went for her first and last H3 Economics Lecture with Yisheng. That was also the day I brought her home and received much nagging and scolding from my mum.
The following day, we went back to look for Newton and we couldn’t find him. But after our paper, Yisheng called to say that his Chemistry lecture group heard a mewing sound in the middle of lecture. The lecture just ended. After an hour or so of searching, we finally found him. The poor thing was extremely weak, and obviously frightened. Someone who came to check up on him later revealed that earlier on a J1 boy was bullying it in an attempt to impress his girlfriend. After much commotion, I ended up bringing him home. My mum was furious at first. But the reunion of the two kittens saw them tangled together in something similar to a human embrace, and my mum’s heart soften. That was the day when the two cats started living in my house proper, and became part of the family.
Today, they’ve had their double boost of vaccinations already, and just went through the sterilisation operation 2 days ago on 7th May 2009. Their approximate birthday, as I have filled in on their health booklets at the vet’s, is 10th Oct 2008. Dinger likes to groom itself a lot, and Newton just likes to laze around, with the occasional exception when I put his favourite toy mouse in his sight. I believe, they are very happy in their new home.
They have their very own facebook profile!
