Distant Worlds – Music from Final Fantasy

The Distant Worlds: Music from Final Fantasy concert last night was great. Sure, it was played by the Singapore Festival Orchestra, and the first half was kind of disappointing in some parts. They didn’t really screw up Aerith’s Theme (my favourite) but I still hold a grudge against them for rushing it through. That counts as a minor screw up? But that would be the conductor’s fault. Conversations on the orchestra with various friends lowered my expectations prior to the concert, so the disappointment wasn’t so great.

The second half (especially late second half), however, was superb. I guess you always leave the best things in the second half, since it’s your last impression on the audience. I remember back in handbells (iirc), the last song is always really important – The one we practised the most. So the last few songs were really good…Chocobo de Swing was good too…Except I felt that they started off great, but lost the liveliness midway the song. I wasn’t expecting the final final encore to be One-Winged Angel though. Totally dropped it out of my expectations after looking at the programme (was too disappointed), so when it looked like they were having a second encore, I couldn’t think of what they could play. So you could imagine how I screamed when the conductor said they were gonna play One-Winged Angel. My gosh, the best piece of the evening. =DDD It was the piece that more than made every cent of the ticket worth it.

The dialogue session was pretty interesting, except by the time we arrived on the ground floor for it, it’s already ending and they were taking only a few more questions. There’s this one guy who asked about Nobuo Uematsu sensei’s latest work on some animation called the Guin Saga…in English. Sensei’s immediate response was “How did you know about it?” via the translator since latest works are supposed to be a “secret” in response to the previous questions. So Sensei started answering in Japanese….before he could finish, the guy who posed the question shot back a string of Japanese and everyone just went OHHHH…So yea, Sensei answered his question and nobody knew what they talked about (except for those who understands Japanese) since the translator didn’t get a chance to talk at all LOL. Vanessa and I concluded that he posed his question in English initially for the benefit of the audience, but got impatient when he realises it’ll take damn long to go through the translation process haha.

Didn’t go clubbing like I was supposed to after the concert. Because Daniel pangsei-ed the very outing he organised once again. So yea. Kinda disappointed though. Was looking forward to my first clubbing experience. Oh well, there’s always a next time I guess.
