It was mother’s day yesterday (since it is way past 12 midnight already). It didn’t feel very different from any other day though, and had a lot less of the “mother’s day” elements than past years.
For one, mum and dad were out the entire day today. They went to Malaysia. And only came back at around 8pm. Two, the atmosphere at dinner was tense. Even though we did take nice family photos with people smiling, and there are times when the sisters enjoy themselves thoroughly by cam-whoring…it was tense. You could feel it slithering under the table. Tinting my father’s words in his conversations. It wasn’t good at all. You could even see it before the dinner when people don’t bother masking their displeasure. In small conversations of 2 and maybe 3. As my sister said, I don’t know why we even bother when it’s obvious that the atmosphere was ruined and no one was really enjoying it. Why do we still go through the entire motion of having dinner then?
Adults are funny creatures, aren’t they. They accuse us teenagers of being unrealistically idealistic, foolishly stubborn, and irresponsibly ignorant. But they choose to live in some sort of imaginary reality half the time. They pretend too much. Especially Chinese/Asian adults. All that practice of fighting to foot the bill….too pretentious, unnecessary. This is coming from someone who actually likes Asian culture and values.
In other news, my enter key is screwed totally now, and not fixable. I broke off a small but crucial metal piece accidentally. And therefore I need a new laptop. I kind of need a more powerful laptop once I get to university anyway. Even if it’s more for personal reasons than for academic reasons haha. That’s a huge expenditure on my books. And on top of that, I found out from Charissa last night that my first expenditure in the architecture course would be around 500 bucks on the basic tools. Thereafter I’ll still have to pay for materials and stuff too. This shall render me rather broke. So yes, all these translate into one thing.
My Japan trip at the end of this year is in hot soup.
I suppose Japan trip is a luxury and not a necessity, as compared to my architecture studies, and maybe even to a new laptop. So I can put it on hold for a year or two…Even if I really don’t want to bah. Sigh.
